Literacy

For this literacy unit we are following the Somerset Literacy Network plan on Somerset Folktales!  For this we are going to be particularly looking at the story of, 'The Seven Sisters'.

Please see the file attached below.

Today's activity is .......

The king and his daughters had opposite views on singing and dancing. Whenever he saw them singing and dancing, he would get very angry.

Imagine that the king and his daughters had a serious discussion on the subject. He tried to persuade them not to sing or dance and they argued why they should be allowed to sing and dance.

List all the reasons the king would give to try to persuade them not to sing and dance any more. Can you add to the list?

Now list all the reasons the princesses would give to persuade the king to let them sing and dance. Can you add to this list too?

Or

  • Draw or write about another endangered animal that might want to get on the train.

Reading

I would like you to spend some time every day reading your reading book or any book you are enjoying.  It is great to read to others but it is also good to do some independent reading!  Maybe you could send in some book reviews that we could share on our webpage!

REMEMBER, we now have a great website called GetEpic!  It would be wonderful to see you using that as well!

Read, Write Inc

In Read Write Inc we are continuing looking at unit 11 focusing on words with the prefix re, it is on page 45-48.  But today I would like you to just work on page 47 and complete the log and learn, dictation and four-in-a-row activities.  Tomorrow we shall go onto choose the right word, team teach and jumping orange word activities.

Do remember to practice for your test on Thursday.

REMEMBER, you can always go back over previous units and complete and work which you did not quite finish.

Topic

Today's lesson will be all about Iron Age Hill Forts.  It is a two day activity and will continue into tomorrow as it is a bit of a bigger project!

Last week we look at the facts of the Iron Age and one thing was quite evident, Hill forts were very important!

Why do you think that they were so important?

Below is a PowerPoint going into detail about what they were, how they were used and why they were important.

Once you have looked through the PowerPoint, your challenge is to create an interactive book all about hillforts.  Now, this does not have to be more than a few pages and it could just be in you yellow exercise book if you do not have any paper at home.  Remember to try to use flaps and pockets to add extra detail!

I would love to see these when we are next in school together!
