Maths
This week we are continuing to look at multiplication and division. We are currently following the White Rose Hub unit. All the activities and PowerPoints are linked below.
As we all have our White Rose Maths books at home, we can now work from them. So, instead of attaching a worksheet, I will give you your pages numbers. I am also still attaching the answer sheet to help you mark them.
Wednesday
Multiply by 8 page 66 - 69
Maths Extension
Today I would like you to go onto MathShed and practice your 3 digit subtraction crossing tens and hundreds.
Click here for a link to the website, you log in through Edshed.
Your username and password should be in the front of your BHBOAE book. If you cannot remember your username and password, please give me an email on learningathome.034@educ.somerset.gov.uk and I shall find it for you!
Literacy
Wednesday
On a Wednesday we will be working for our Collins English Workbooks.
This will have a big focus on grammar.
In your folders some of you have a book with a white sticker on the front. Sticker and non-sticker groups will have a different page number and may spend some time on different areas.
Today I would like the white sticker group to work on page 106 - 107 looking at verbs and adverbs. This works well with what we have been looking at for out 'Truth About Trolls' work. Remember a verb is an action or doing word. As an extension, come up with a mind-map of at least 15 different verbs relating to what you are doing in lockdown!
Today I would like the no sticker group to work on page 96 - 97 looking at fronted adverbials. Fronted adverbials are words or phrases placed at the beginning of a sentence (followed by a comma) which are used to describe the action that follows. We did start to see these throughout the year but I would like to see you using and understanding them more.
As an extension, create 10 different sentences using fronted adverbials. The sentences could be about what you are doing in lockdown.
Reading
I would like you to spend some time every day reading your reading book or any book you are enjoying. It is great to read to others but it is also good to do some independent reading! Maybe you could send in some book reviews that we could share on our webpage!
Read Write Inc Spellings
For your spelling’s today, I would like you to have someone at home test you on the spellings that you have been practicing from unit 5! You can always give me an email to let me know how you did on your test!
We always do the test on the top of the page for the next unit, for today this is page 24 and it is right at the top under speed spell.
We also have, on page 23, our special focus 2. I would like you to have a go at completing this page all about homophone, however as you have quite a bit to do today, you can do this some other time throughout the week.
Then afterwards have a look at our new spellings.
This week we are now on unit 5 and our spellings are looking at adding ation to verbs to make nouns.
They are -
information
exploration
explanation
alteration
admiration
reservation
Why not have a go at writing them out as a poster and then hanging the poster somewhere in your house, so that you can keep practicing them!
Science
Today we are starting our new science unit all about light. For today's lesson we are going to be looking at what gives out light (this is called a light source) and what just simply reflects light.
What doe reflecting light mean? This means that the object does not make light itself, it simply has light bounce (reflect) off of it!
Click here for a video on Espresso all about light. This will help you with today's work.
Your task it to discover as many different sources of light that you can! You could use a page in your exercise book to draw and explain each source of light. Please also try to put next to them which light sources are natural and which ones are man-made (for example a TV is man-made).
As an extension, why not also think of different objects which reflect light! Create a page for them, again thinking about which are natural and which are man-made.
Which of the pictures below are light sources or reflectors?
Extension - which sources are natural and which are man-made?
