Apostrophes to indicate possession

Apostrophes show something belongs.

To show possession, you add an apostrophe and an 's' to the owner or the owner's name.

the girl's computer

the computer's screen

It is different for groups of people or things.

If a plural word ends in an  's', just add an apostrophe.

The babies' prams were in the garden.

If the plural word does not end in an 's', add an apostrophe and an 's'

The men's coats were hanging on the pegs.

Try the activities below. Write out each sentence. Change the singular noun into a plural noun and use the apostrophe to indicate possession correctly.

SOMETHING TO ENJOY OVER THE WEEKEND AND BEYOND

I have been a huge fan of Michael Rosen for years. He feels like an old friend, as I have read many of his poems and stories. It came as a great shock when I learnt that he had been in hospital with coronavirus. He is now recovering - thank goodness.

Click here to enjoy poems and stories by Michael Rosen. They are high on entertainment value.
