Introduce Jack and the Beanstalk. Have you read this book before? What happens? What do you think will happen?
Read Jack and the Beanstalk expressively, if you have the book, if not use the link below.
Decide on actions for key words and repeat the story: once, twice, Jack, walked, mother, beans, climbed, giant, giant’s wife, thumping, gold, smell, use bones to grind my bread, luckily, inside
Now can you use drama to act out the story, can different family members become different characters or could you use soft toys or role play characters to act out the story.

Which parts of the story are repeated? Why? Create class story map to help re-tell the story. Encourage children to re-tell the story of Jack and the Beanstalk.
Discuss how the author hasn’t used many said words. Why is it important to include ‘said’ words? It allows the reader to know who is speaking.
