On the way, Suzie met a beggar holding a small bag. “Cocoa beans,” whispered the beggar. “They can be yours in exchange for your cow.” Suzie felt excited when she saw them. They smelt divine. Without another thought, Suzie traded her cow for the beans and hurried home to her mother. When Suzie arrived home with the beans her mother was furious. She threw the beans out of the window and sent Suzie to bed. The next morning, Suzie looked out the window. A gigantic brown cocoa tree had grown in the garden! She decided to climb it. It was sky-high and went right up to the clouds. Suzie wondered what was at the top.

When Suzie reached the top, she saw the most enormous stone castle. Suzie decided to sneak inside. Suddenly she heard a booming noise. Quickly, Suzie ran into a cupboard to hide. A monstrous giant came into the room. “Fee, Fi, Fo, Fum I smell the blood of an Englishwomen!” he bellowed. The giant sat down at the table. On the table was a blue peacock and a silver diamond flute. “Lay!” demanded the giant and the peacock laid an egg. It was made from the most beautiful sapphires and emeralds. “Sing!” said the giant and the flute sang. The flute sang a sweet lullaby that made the giant fall asleep.
