Equality Statement
Bishops Hull Primary School seeks to promote equality in all we do, and we celebrate the diversity within our community. We welcome the public sector equality duty as set out in the Equality Act (2010)
What is our duty?
The Equality Act 2010 was introduced to ensure protection on the grounds of specific characteristics (referred to as protected characteristics). For schools, this means that it is unlawful to discriminate against students or treat them less favourably because of their sex; race; disability; religion or belief; gender reassignment; sexual orientation; pregnancy or maternity.
Marriage and civil partnerships and age are also 'protected characteristics'. These apply to staff but not students in schools.
What are the protected characteristics?
Our Equality Policy contains information about how the school complies with the Public Sector Equality Duty. We also give guidance to staff and outside visitors on our approach to promoting equality.

Our Equality Objectives
Our Equality Objectives reflect the school's priorities and draw upon available data and other evidence. Careful analysis of this is undertaken in order to ensure that we are working to achieve improved outcomes for different groups.
Our Equality Objectives are as follows:
Objective 1
To ensure that all pupils, especially the disadvantaged, make strong progress and that the attainment gap continues to close through targeted interventions and effective use of funding streams.
Objective 2
To raise the profile and ensure the success of pupils from minority ethnic backgrounds, different religious beliefs, and those with English as an additional language (EAL) by embedding inclusive practices and celebrating diversity across the curriculum and school life.
Objective 3
To continue promoting an atmosphere of mutual respect, tolerance, and understanding through the consistent integration of British Values and equality principles within the curriculum and wider school activities.
Objective 4
To continue to develop a further understanding and culture of respect for the protected characteristics of all pupils, staff and stakeholders through the curriculum and wider school strategies.
