RE & World Views

Please find below more information regarding RE & World Views at Bishop’s Hull Primary School

Intent

At Bishops Hull Primary School, our RE and Worldviews curriculum enables pupils to become curious, respectful and reflective learners. We aim for children to understand a wide range of religious and non-religious worldviews, recognise how beliefs shape lives and develop their own sense of identity and values.

Implementation

Learning is driven by enquiry questions, encouraging pupils to think deeply, ask meaningful questions and explore beliefs with an open mind. We use discussion and dialogue as essential tools for learning, helping children express ideas clearly and listen respectfully.

In Key Stage 2, pupils explore worldviews through three disciplinary lenses:

  • Theology: beliefs, teachings and sources of authority

  • Philosophy: meaning, truth and ethics

  • Sociology: lived experience and practice

We use a bespoke RE and Worldviews curriculum designed collaboratively with subject leads across the Blackdown Education Partnership, rooted in the expectations of the Somerset SACRE Agreed Syllabus. Learning is enquiry-led, with each unit built around a key question that guides investigation, discussion and debate.

In Key Stage 2, pupils use theological, philosophical and sociological lenses to gain deeper insight into how worldviews are formed and lived out.

  • Visits, visitors and community links enhance learning and provide real-life context as well as following locality units which enable children understand the landscape of religions in Somerset.

  • Inclusive teaching ensures all children can access and contribute meaningfully to RE, with ongoing assessment guiding next steps.
