Geography
In Geography, we aim to provide opportunities for children to develop an interest and understanding of the diverse human and physical world in which they live and their place within it.
Pupils are taught about a range of places and locations, studying them at different scales and developing their ability to compare and contrast areas including their locality, the United Kingdom and the wider world. Alongside developing their locational knowledge, they learn about key physical and human processes. They develop their geographical skills through exploring atlases, maps and globes as well as using compass directions and grid references. Pupils are encouraged to ask questions and we aim to provide fieldwork opportunities to ensure they put their geographical skills into practice. In Geography, we follow EYFS guidance as well as National Curriculum guidance for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
Educational visits are researched by teachers prior to starting a unit of work and visitors are invited into the classroom. Where relevant, cross curricular links are made with other subject areas. As children progress through the school, they build on prior knowledge and skills in order to deepen their understanding of the interaction of people and places and their influence on shaping the future.
